Estelle Laura Johnson, new face in lioness’ squad
The American raised Cameroonian professional footballer Laura Johnson will for the first time take part in a competition with the Cameroon’s National Women’s football team, that of the world cup in France.
Estelle Laura Johnson born on 21 July 1988 in Maroua, Yaounde. She plays as a defender for NWSL club Sky Blue FC and the Cameroon women’s national team. She is one amongst most of the girls who did most of her football career out of Cameroon.
From 2006 to 2009, Estelle Johnson played for Kansas Jayhawks. From 2010 to 2011, she joined Philadelphia Independence. From 2011 to 2012, Sydney FC welcomed her. She was later on taken by New York Fury, Western New York Flash, and Washington print.
In January 2019, Johnson was traded to Sky Blue FC along with some of her teammates for the third overall and 29th picks of the 2019 NWSL College Draft.
In 2018, Johnson was reportedly contacted by the Indomitable Lionesses then head coach Joseph Ndoko about her interest in representing Cameroon.
She was later named to the Indomitable Lionesses’ squad on 1 May 2019and made her debut 16 days later against Spain in a 0–4 friendly loss, prior to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
