UNIFFAC TOURNAMENT CONGO BRAZZAVILLE 2022: CAMEROON HELD TO A (1-1) BY THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

The Lions were held to a  1-1 by the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday in their second group game at the ongoing 2022 UNIFFAC tournament in Brazzaville.

The Lions were the better team for a long spell and created chances, deservedly opening the scoring after Nsongo Bil took advantage of catastrophic goalkeeping to open the scoring at the stroke of halftime.

Coach Yvan Kenmoe boys earlier had several glaring chances to race into the lead but couldn’t make the dominance count.

Striker Hadji Moustapha missed from close range after he was brilliantly played through by Kimbi Lovis three minutes into the game.

Moustapha had another decent chance to make amends but once again his finishing was disappointing.

Another chance came begging at the 23rd minute but Wassou Patient was denied by the keeper after he had done all the hard work.

Having picked up a knock in the opening moments of the game, coach Yvan Kenmoe opted to bring in Nsongo Tonfack Bil in for Moustapha and the substitute wasted no time in breaking the deadlock at the stroke of halftime.

The Congolese grew in  confidence in the second half and got the equalizer at the 65 minutes when Josue Lusamba beat goalkeeper Junior Hercube to put the tie at 1-1.

Both sides had several half chances to snatch the winner but the scoreboard remained unchanged.

The result means Cameroon must beat Central African Republic in the final group match to secure qualification to the 2023 U20 African Nations Cup billed for Egypt.

The Republic of Congo now top the group with four points after beating Central African Republic 3-1 earlieron Sunday. Cameroon sit third with two points while the Democratic Republic of Congo are tailing the table with a point.
