NATIONAL INTERPOOLS 2022: NGV, HILLTOP STRIKERS COMPLETE SEMI – FINALS QUARTET

NGV and Hilltop Strikers have both qualified for the semi finals  of this year’s national Interpools after the completion of four match days in group A.

West regional juggernauts – NGV had done all the hardwork prior to their last game against Hilltop Strikers, but for the momentum and perhaps, the camaras, the Westerners wanted a victory against Hilltop Strikers – to end with a flourish.

NGV was well on course to keeping their 100 percent record as they took the lead through current top scorer of the competition, Nana Wilfried, now on 5 goals.

Hilltop Strikers activated the press system in search for an equalizer and it finally came at the before the end of the first  half. Christian Sobze committed a foul on the edge of the area, and he looked the last line defender. As such, Sobze was handed his matching orders and the eventual free-kick was delightfully converted by Charles Lenka.

After the pose, the dynamics changed, especially as Hilltop Strikers had heard of the results elsewhere.

From a lightening counter at the 70th minute, Francis Ngwaimbi drilled pass goalkeeper Lisandro Coco, who found the shot too hot to handle. Hilltop had further chances to kill the game, but settled for the 2-1 win, qualifying with 8 points, one behind group A leaders NGV. NGV goes through with 9 points from a possible 12, after winning three and conceding just one defeat against Hilltop Strikers on the final day.

At the Middle Farms stadium, Nkufo FC from the center led, but cracked in the last 10 minutes, letting the lead slide. Not that a win would have counted  anyways, especially as Hilltop Strikers did the job against NGV.

Coming into the game, Nkofu needed a win and nothing less against Olympique of Meiganga, while hoping Hilltop shared the spoils or concede defeat to NGV.

Nkofu started on a good footing. The center representatives took the lead at the 20th minute of play through Junior Patrick Evouna.

Olympique of Meiganga with nothing to play for – other than honor, fought back late in the game and scored an 81st minute equalizer courtesy Yakim Nestor. One-all the game ended, with Nkofu bowing out on 5 points in group A.

The semis will be played on September  22nd, with NGV pitting Victoria United, and Hilltop Strikers facing off against Aigle of Moungo.
