For the second of two games played at the Middle Farms Stadium on Monday, September 12, a very much enthusiastic Nkofu FC of the Center region took on NGV Foot Academy, all the way from the West.

Nkufo came in the games with a big reputation, having dismantled Mbangassina FC by 4 goals without reply in the Center regional final, while NGV claimed their Championship in the West region, 24 hours before the start of the National Interpools.

NGV started on a fine footing. They scored the earliest goal so far in the competition, in the very first minute of play. Charles Metogo’s header was heading into the net before Alex Boris Tatonfack helped it over the line for 1-0 NGV.

Nkofu FC looked stunned and the lads were perhaps gripped by stage fright at the beginning.

Coach Lebogo Essama’s charges mounted attack after attack in search for an equalizer, but NGV caught them in one of their famous, and somewhat trademark counter attack.

Wilfried Nana who was running his socks off for most parts of the half, received the ball down the right channel and then served Tatonfack who was unmarked, and he just couldn’t miss from 4 yards out. It was Tatonfack’s second of the afternoon.

Despite the scoreline, Nkufo appeared to have all the possession, with young players like 15-year-old Rayan Ebene constantly throwing tantrums at NGV’s defense.

Nkofu halved deficit at the 50th minute through defender, Cyrille Ngambi from a corner, but they could only rue their missed chances after 90 minutes – with NGV playing the perfect ‘game management’.

NGV temporarily leads group A with three points due to the share of spoils between National FC and Olympique of Meiganga. Hiltop Strikers was on standby.
