AFCON 2019 : Indomitable lions bow to Nigeria, get eliminated
The indomitable lions of Cameroon have bowed out of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations competition on a 3-2 defeat against the super eagles of Nigeria in the round of 16.
A brace from Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo and a third goal from Alex Iwobi were enough to seal the fate of the indomitable lions at this continental competition.
The encounter that took place in Egypt’s city of Alexandria this Saturday afternoon was a rather tough one for the boys of Clarence Seedorf and the super eagles.
During the first half, Nigeria took the lead on Cameroon by opening the score at the 20′.
The indomitable lions who erre guilty of a shaky start and poor pass accuracy bounced back at the end of the first half with Bahoken who equalised and few minutes on, Njie Clinton beautifully netted Cameroon’s second goal as they retired the first round with Cameroon leading.
During the second round, Nigeria benefitted from two moments of distractions from Cameroon’s defence and scored the two goals that nailed the indomitable lions.
Nigeria will face either Egypt or South Africa in the quarter finals.
