The Cameroon Football Federation has noticed with regrets that there are media reports that some players of the Under-17 national selection have been thrown out of camp due to age fraud.

The communication department of the Federation seeks to inform public opinion that there has been no external control to determine the ages of players.

On the contrary, FECAFOOT, in an attempt to choose eligible players for the upcoming Under-17 African Cup of Nations in Morocco, decided to conduct the regular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test on the players called up for the recent camping. Of the players who underwent the test, 25 were declared eligible even with the Federation’s decision to drop the eligibility mark to fusion 4 instead of the FIFA required standard of fusion 5 for precautionary reason. The decision was motivated by the fact that the MRI test does NOT prove that a player is 17 or over. It has a range of ages 16-18 for Stage 6 and relies on the interpretation of the person carrying out the test.

In this light, the medical team of the Under-17 Lions will like to inform local and international media that the players sent home are not eligible for the Under-17 competition because they are of fusion five and six though fusion 5 is accepted by FIFA for the Under-17 category.

The 25 players retained in camp train daily at the Omnisport Annex I Stadium in Yaoundé-Cameroon ahead of the Under-17 UNIFFAC and AFCON tournaments scheduled for the weeks ahead.
