The National U-17 football team is in camp at the CAF excellence center in Mbangkomo. The camping is part of preparation for the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be played in Brazil. Over 30 players are in camp together with their lead trainer coach Libiih Thomas and Team Manager Lucien Motomo.

According to coach Libiih, all is going well despite the late start. “We are working in total serenity. We had a delay in this preparation but we have to work gradually. They are children and so we must work hard. We have to do more physical work to ensure they are ready because that is the base.” He said

Apart from regular daily training sessions, the team has been involved in friendly matches with local teams like Dragon of Yaoundé and Salam FC. The coach has expressed satisfaction with the performance during the matches justifying that the friendlies keep the players in a competitive spirit.

“We will travel in the coming days for a friendly tournament in Turkey. We will play friendly matches against Paraguay, England and then against Angola. We will then return to the country before going to Brazil where preparations will continue before the competition kick off.” Coach Libiih Thomas detailed as concerns the plan ahead.

Cameroon qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup after winning the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations following a 5-3 win against Guinea 5-3 on penalties during the final in Dar es Salaam Tanzanian.

Cameroon’s last participation at the FIFA U-17 World Cup was in 2003.
