CHAN 2020: Goal keepers trainer assures of quality in the den
Deputy Coach in charge of goal keepers for the Intermediate Lions Clement Assimba has expressed satisfaction with the quality of shot stoppers he is working with as Cameroon fine tunes preparations for April’s African Nations championship CHAN to be played on home soil.
“They are doing well! No injuries for now! They are assimilating very well and personally I am very satisfied with the quality of their work and they are determined. That promises a bright future for the competition. ” he said
Coming entirely from league One clubs in the country, the trainer notes that they are already doing well but he has to do some corrections. According to Assimba, it is a privilege for Cameroon to have such quality of goal keepers playing in the Cameroon championship.
With Omossola Simon from Cotonsport of Garoua with several calls to other national selections including the senior national team, Epane Epane Letizie of Stade Renard of Melong with a recent call to the senior national team and Anye Derrick of Panthere du Nde with two participations in the African Nations championship CHAN, as well as Dande Dande Jr of Apejes of Mfou likely to join the group according to the goalie trainer, making a final choice may take some time. In eight local and international friendly matches played already, Cameroon has conceded two goals: one against second tier side FC Leopard and another against the Republic of Congo.
“We are in full preparations and we cannot be in a hurry to rank the goal keepers because there are parameters and such parameters can change. But if we look at matches played and other national assignments we can have an idea of who can lead in the goal post.” Assimba said.
The trainer has encouraged Cameroonians to have trust in the goal keepers saying “Cameroon as you know is a country of good goal keepers! that should give Cameroonian hope. It is very fortunate for us to have these goal keepers with us.”
