CHAN 2020: Intermediate Lions Coach satisfied with preparations after two local friendlies

The Coach of the Intermediate Lions has expressed satisfaction with the work done so far with his team as part of preparations for the 2020 CAF African Nations Championship TOTAL CHAN CAMEROON 2020.

Yves Clement Arroga was speaking in Douala on Wednesday January 15, 2020 after winning a second local friendly match with division one side Avion Academy of Nkam 1-0. The defeat of Avion Academy follows another the day before 3-1 against second tier side Leopard FC of Douala.

According to the Coach, the results were not the most important aspect he was out for. “My interest is to see if the players are understanding and ready to implement what we are telling them during training. I don’t look at results in these type of matches… We have a couple of issues to regularise… They are a pre-selection meaning not yet the selection. No one should relent their effort because we will select only the best. We have confidence in every one of them and we are giving them time to assimilate the play style we are sharing with them.” Arroga tells FECAFOOT MEDIA.

Mark Ojong N. one of the captains of the second match admitted that playing against Avion Academy of Nkam was not easy but maintains that it is a group they are building adding that with the work to be done by the coaches and time still available the team will be ready.

Captain of the first game against Leopard FC Etta Bawak Thomas on his part noted “We played a good game… It was not easy from the beginning… They were leading during the first half and we had to work hard to equalise and to win. We simply respected the advise of the coach. A victory gives us confidence.”
Omosola Simon and Samuel Nlend all preselected players of the Intermediate Lions expressed satisfaction with the work the coaches are doing. The goalkeeper and attacker respectively talked of a winning mindset in camp while visibly optimistic about their future together.

Coach of Avion FC David Ngambe like his colleague of Leopard FC Théophil Feunkou accepted their defeats but noted that if Cameroon plans to win the CHAN 2020, then there is need to improve on goal scoring abilities.

After the two fixtures, Coach Yves Clement Arroga returns to his regular training programme during which he will be fine tuning the team that will take on Chad come Friday January 24 for what will be the team’s first international friendly.
