Players, fans overjoyed as NW representative qualify for League Two
It’s official! Foncha Street FC of Bamenda will be playing the League Two in Cameroon next season after finishing top of Pool C with 6pts at the National Inter-pool competition in Bertoua Saturday August 31.
It has been a moment of celebration for players, technical staff, management and fans of Foncha Street FC of Bamenda after a brilliant qualification for the League Two Championship.
The NW representative emerged as the first team to book an Elite Two ticket for next season after a drama filled match by beating Mercure du Mbam of the Center Region 1-0 at the Bertoua Divisional Statdium thanks to a first half goal scored by Brilant AwahMukala Tanwie 34″ from a penalty spot.
Though Mercure rattled the bar on one occasion, some good shootings at close range gave goalkeeper Ngeh Frankiline and teammates of Foncha Street FC some tough moments as they tried to prevent their oponent from getting an equaliser. The winners managed to keep their dream of a maiden League Two participation alive till the end.
Moh David President of Foncha Street FC who watched the encounter has expressed gratitude to all who accompanied the team to where they are today.
“We are so happy today with this victory! We can only saynthanks to God because he has been with us throughout this tournament. We say thank you to the supporters who have been with us throughout this tournament and the administration of the NW: they have always been with us and today we our happy that we have qualified to Elite Two championship.” He said.
Foncha Street FC qualifies after two wins that gave them 6pts crowning them champions of Pool C where they played alongside Etoile Filante of Garoua and Mercure du Mbam who all emerged second and third respectively.
