Stade Renard wins maiden Champions trophy
Stade Renard of Melong are the winners of the maiden edition of Cameroon’s Champions trophy. Coach Bertin Ebwelle’s team beat Union Movement Sportive UMS of Loum 3-1 to lift the trophy Sunday October 13, at the Kouekong Stadium, Ouest Region of Cameroon.
Goals including own goals from Bertin Ngamaleu 10′ Kouayep Jordan 28′ and Joel Etogue 45′ were good enough to put Stade Renard on a 3-0 lead at the close of first half.
Substitute Ngah Cedric’s 85th minute goal for UMS reduced tally giving Sokba Oumarou’s team a lesser defeat margin of 3-1 at full time.
West Regional Governor Awah Funka Augustine who did the kickoff, The President of the Cameroon Football Federation FECAFOOT Seidou Mbombo Njoya and Alim Konate President of the professional football league transitional technical committee watched the game before decorating the participants with trophies and symbolic medals.
Stade Renard Midfileder Moudongo Noum who played a remarkable role in his team’s victory was decorated man of the match with trophy handed by West Regional Governor.
Winners Stade Renard received gold medals and the Champions Trophy for their merited victory while UMS received silver medals.
FECAFOOT President Seidou Mbombo Njoya during the post match press conference expressed gratitude to all those who showed up in Kouekong for the maiden edition of the Champions Trophy especially the teams that bought the vision and worked to bring it to fulfilment. He used the conference to reiterated his resolve to professionalise Cameroon’s football and this he noted should happen with the collaboration of all.
On his part Aboubakar Alim Konate President of the football league transitional technical committee assured that efforts are underway to start the football season in the coming days.
Coach Bertin Edwele of Stade Renard like his counterpart Sokba Oumarou of UMS admitted that the Champions Trophy was a good opportunity for them to measure their level of preparedness ahead of the kickoff of the professional football league.
The Champions Trophy it should be noted is the first since the creation of the professional football league in Cameroon.
