AFCON 2021: CAF Inspection team in Cameroon
A team from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is in Cameroon on an inspection mission in preparation for the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to take place early next year.
The inspection visit scheduled from May 22- 28, 2021 will see the team visit Yaounde, Garoua, Bafoussam, Douala and Limbe being the host cities of the African football jamboree. During the visit, the team will evaluate match stadiums, training pitches and hotels.
Prior to visiting the concerned cities, the inspection team has met with officials of the local organising committee (COCAN) and visited the venue expected to host the draws of the tournament on the 25 June 2021.
The Inspection visit is led by CAF deputy secretary General Anthony Baffoe accompanied by a careful select of FIFA experts coordinated by Director of tournaments and events Jaime Yarza Gonzalez whose technical inputs are expected to facilitate preparations for CAF and COCAN.
“As FIFA, we are here to support CAF and the Local Committee. We are convinced these teams will deliver a fantastic tournament in January.” Jaime Yarza Gonzalez said
The Vice president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) Alim Kounate has accompanied the delegation on the first stop to Garoua where the inspection team has expressed satisfaction with the state of infrastructure.
