NATIONAL INTERPOOLS 2022: TIRED NATIONAL SUCCUMBS TO NKUFO, HILLTOP STRIKES AGAINST OLYMPIQUE OF MEIGANGA
Group A remains open after two crunch ties on Wednesday 14, that saw Hilltop Strikers and Nkufo FC pick up victories.
First up was North West representatives, Hilltop Strikers for their first game in the competition, and the men coach Ngwa Remy did not disappoint, as they defeated Olympique of Meiganga 2-0.
The tournament’s earliest goal was netted by Hilltop’s Ngwainbi Francis on the whistle; 20 seconds after the start. Seemingly startled, Olympique of Meiganga had to find a way to square the tie. Perhaps, the Adamawa representatives are still going through the aftermath of not being able to hold a two-nil lead against National FC on match day one. Just as Olympique pushed for an equalizer, Hilltop scored from a quick counter led, and finished by Yousouffa Sidick in added time (90+1). The game eventually finished 2-0 as Hilltop entered the competition home and dry.
For the second game of the afternoon at the Centenary stadium, Nkufo FC took on National FC. National led for more than half of the game, but two late goals from the center representatives gifted them their first three points of the tournament.
It took an absolute howler from goalkeeper Achilles Bakelack who missed his clearance at the half hour mark, with Barka Djibrine sliding into an empty net.
Nkufo rallied and served two late goals with 10 minutes left in the contest. Franky Manga scored from the spot at the 81st minute, before completing his double at the 89th minute for 2-1 in favour of Nkufo FC. Hilltop Strikers, NGV and Nkofu FC all stand on 3 points in group A. National meanwhile, have a point, same with Olympique Meiganga.
