Ysis Sonkeng, the tactical defender

Ysis Amarielle Sonkeng is one of Cameroon’s National women’s team footballer who is reserved but full of surprises.

Born on September 20, 1989 in Yaounde, Ysis Sonkeng currently plays for Amazones FAP Yaounde.

She began her football career in 2008 at Canon of Yaounde. This same year, she takes part in the women’s African football championship. Two years later, she goes in for the same championship and gets the semi-finals with Cameroon.

In 2012, she is part of the squad that goes in for the Olympic Games. From here, she takes part in all African competitions involving Cameroon; that is the 2011, 2014, 2016 and 2018 women’s African cup of Nations.

In 2015, Ysis Sonkeng travels with National team mates to Canada for Cameroon’s first participation at the FIFA women’s world cup, though the girls are finally sent packing at the 8th finals.

For the second consecutive time that Cameroon is due to take part in the FIFA women’s world cup underway in France, Ysis Sonkeng will have to prove that she is not a newcomer in world this competition.
