NATIONAL INTERPOOLS 2022: AIGLE OF MOUNGO, VICTORIA UNITED SAIL THROUGH TO SEMIS

Two teams marked as favorites in group B; Victoria United and Aigle of Moungo have picked the first two tickets to the semis of this year’s national interpools.

After three match days, an unprecedented twist on match day four was very unlikely, as the ‘big guns’ were tied at 7 points, with AS Real of Bertoua needing a victory against Aigle Royal, for any drama on the final day.

In order for fair games – and to stay clear of any match manipulations, the two matches scheduled  on Monday, September 19 – took off at same time, in different venues.

Victoria United played against already knocked out FC Ebolowa at the Omnisport stadium, while Aigle faced off against AS Real of Bertoua at the Centenary stadium.

Aigle of Moungo cemented their spot as group leaders at the 30th minute from 12 yards, on the penalty spot. It was only fitting that Beboum Kamdem Maurice, who has been in superlative form (four goals in the tournament), netted the goal that meant ‘game, set and match’. AS Real regardless of results elsewhere, bowed out given that their points tally didn’t sum up to Victoria United’s, even if the host side lost, which they did!

Victoria United lost their first game of the season against FC Ebolowa at the Limbe Omnisport stadium. The defeat however counted for nothing – especially with Aigle doing the job against AS Real. The victory for FC  Ebolowa however, it acted as the restoration of some pride.

Joseph Elie Tiba scored at the 25th minute and Joseph Marie Gael followed with the game’s second, three minutes later, as the game went on to end 2-0 in favour of the South representatives.

Victoria United will take on NGV in the semis, while Aigle awaits who emerges second best in group A between Hilltop strikers and Nkufo FC tomorrow September 20.
