NATIONAL INTERPOOLS 2022: AJAX MAROUA STUNS AS REAL, AIGLE ROYAL ESCAPE FC EBOLOWA’S GRIP UNSCATHED

Group B is now taking shape with one more round of matches to go, as Victoria United and Aigle of Moungo have taken a step ahead the pack.

The two group B games played at the Limbe Omnisport stadium on Saturday, September 17 turned out to be more than a tussle, contrary to what fans had thought.

Ajax FC of Maroua didn’t go down without a fight, and like what they say, the last kick of a ‘dying horse’ is always fierce.

The Far Northerners stunned AS Real in the matchup by taking an early lead at the 23rd minute. Seemingly startled, AS Real of Bertoua had to collectively fight back for their Championship lives.

Johnson Souman Perry scored the game’s leveller at the 35th minute, and it was expected that AS Real would go on to get the win, but coach Abdoul Samadi and his troops wouldn’t leave host city Limbe, empty handed. Ajax FC of Maroua fought throughout the remainder of regular   and added on time, to preciously keep the stalemate. Ajax  FC of Maroua bow out having conceded 15 goals and scored 5, leaving them bottom of group B with a -10 goals difference, but, the draw against AS Real at least, salvages some pride. For AS Real, they must pick up a victory in their last game.

In the late kick-off, Aigle of Moungo took on FC Ebolowa. The encounter ended 2-1 for the Littoral champions, but they left it really late against an adamant FC Ebolowa side.

Benjamin Bwe scored the game’s first goal at the 22nd minute of play, but Patrick Djana Fouda’s converted spot kick in the course of the first half brought the game all square.

It took Aigle up until 90 minutes plus added on time to scoop the victory after marksman Maurice Beboum scored his third goal of the competition.

Aigle of the Moungo are up to 7 points, level with hosts Victoria United with one last game left.

Victoria United and Aigle of Moungo will be playing for the top of the group on September 19, while AS Real are equally lurking around the corner with four points, but they have a tougher task trying to defeat Aigle of Moungo on the last day. Victoria United will pit FC Ebolowa who are officially out of the race.
