2021 Under-17 AFCON: Lions to face heavyweights

Our Under-17 national selection has been paired against serious opposition Mali, Senegal, and South Africa in this afternoon’s draw for the 2021 Under-17 AFCON tournament conducted in Nouakchott-Mauritania.

The defending champions and two times winners, Cameroon will face previous winners Mali plus 2015 runners-up South Africa and a semi-finalist in the last edition, Senegal in Group C.

The Lions won their second crown last time in Tanzania and will be keen on a good run in the competition again.

Coach Anicet Mbarga Foe’s team has had three preparatory camps and heads to Morocco early next month.

The Lions open their competition on March 15 against Senegal before confronting South Africa three days later. They conclude the group stage of the competition against Mali on March 21.

The best two teams in each group and the best two teams from the other teams in the groups qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.

Host Morocco are in group A alongside Zambia, Uganda and Ivory Coast while two times winners Nigeria face Tanzania, Algeria and Congo in group B.

The competition runs from March 13th to 31st across three cities in Morocco.
